Presentation re: Chamber <br />of Conm~erce Convention <br />Bureau <br /> <br />Presentation re: Drug <br />Abuse Council <br /> <br />Presentation re: Change <br />in Building Code Ordinance <br /> <br />Appointment re: Mr. <br />Jesse Williams - Housing <br />Authority <br /> <br />ppropriation re: <br /> 9,100 School Board <br /> <br />Appropriation re: <br />$1,500 - Resource <br />Recovery Study Commission <br /> <br /> Mr. Paul~i~'~dMen, Chgirman of the Chamber of comme~.ce <br /> Convention Committee, addressed the Council and presented a <br /> report of the Convention Bureau for the past fiscal year. He <br /> also presented a financial report of the Activities of the <br /> Bureau. <br /> <br /> Dr. Charles Woodbury, Jr., Drug Abuse Coordinator and <br /> <br /> Planner for the Thomas Jeffers Planning District Commission, <br /> addressed the Council and presented the Student Drug Survey <br /> Report on drug abuse. Dr. Woodbury on behalf of the Drug <br /> Abuse Council requested that the City Council establish a <br /> Charlottesville Citizens Drug Education and Prevention <br /> Committee. Mr. Van Yahres suggested that the Social Development <br /> Commission be used as this committee. On motion by Mr. <br /> <br /> Van Yahres, seconded by Mrs. Rinehart the report was accepted <br /> and forwarded to the Social Development Commission for <br /> conaiderat ion. <br /> <br /> Dr. Ronald Thompson addressed the Council in protest to <br /> <br />the use of the BOCA Building Code by the City and questioned <br />the interpretation and enforcement of the Code by the <br />Inspections Department. He stated that he thinks the City <br />should see that the work is properly done, but not say who <br />does it, as long as the work meets the State Code it should <br />be appr~oved. Mr. Frank Muse, Chief Building Inspector, <br />addressed the Council and stated that the function of the <br />Inspections Division is primarily for safety and welfare of the <br />public. ~He stated, the integrity of the contractors foremost <br />since some work is covered and readily available for inspection. <br />He also stated that the inspection is for the neighbors safety <br />as well as the occupant or owner. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Fife, Mr. Jesse Williams, was appointed <br /> <br />to the Redevelopment and Housing Authority to fill the unexpired <br /> <br />term of Mary Alice Jones, expiring August 10, 1979. <br /> <br /> Th~ resolution appropriating $9,100 for repairs to the <br /> <br />Lane High School Building, which was offered at the meeting <br />of the Council on ~ovember 3, 1975, was adopted by the following <br />recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gilliam, Mrs. <br />Rinehart and Mr. Van Yahres. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> The resolution appropriating $1,500 for the Resource Recovery <br />Study Commission which was offered at the meeting of the Council <br />on November 3, 1975, was adopted by the following recorded vote. <br />Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gilliam, Mrs. Rinehart and Mr. <br />Van Yahares. Noes: None. The City Manager advised the Council <br />that in order for the Resource Recovery Study Commission to <br />apply for Federal Study Grant that $60,000 of matching funds must <br /> <br /> <br />
