Resolution re: Appointment <br />of Viewers - Walker <br />Street <br /> <br />On motion by Mr. Gilliam, seconded by Mr. Fife the <br /> <br />following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUT%ON appointing viewers to consider a <br />request for the vacation of that portion of Walker Street <br />running in an easterly direction for approximately 120 feet <br />from the eastern right-of-way of Altamont Street to the <br />western line of an 18 foot alley. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has received a~petition <br />requesting vacation of that portion of Walker Street running <br />in an easterly direction for approximately 120 feet <br />from the eastern right-of-way of Altamont Street to the <br />western line'of an 18 foot alley; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it appears to Council that the notices <br />required by ~15.1-364 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as <br />amended, have been duly posted; <br /> <br /> NOW., THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of <br />the City' of Charlottesville that James P. Borden, Mason <br />S. Byrd' and H. P. Winn, Jr. be and the same are hereby <br />appointed as viewers to view such street and report in <br />writing to Council what inconvenience, if any, would result <br />from the vacation thereof. ~ <br /> <br />Bids re: Juvenile <br />Court remodeling <br />project <br /> <br /> The City Manager presented Bids for the Juvenile <br />Court 'remodeling project. He stated that the lowest bid <br />was from Gelletly Company in the amount of $93,992 and <br /> <br />recommended that th±s bid be accepted. On motion by Mrs. <br /> <br />Rinehart, seconded by Mr. Gilliam the foregoing recommendation <br /> <br />Approving functional <br />classification and <br />federal aid realignment <br />of City Streets <br /> <br />was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Guy Agnor, Director of Public Works, addressed the <br />Council and stated'that the Federal Aid Highways Act of 1973 <br />requires that the State Transportation Agencies realign the <br />Federal Aid Highway System in accordance with the type of <br /> <br />service that the road ways provide.~ He sta~ed that the <br /> <br />Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation has <br />assigned a functional classification to the streets within <br />the City that are now or will be included in the Federal <br /> <br />Aid System by 1985. He presented maps prepared by the <br />Department of Highways and Transportation and members of the <br />City Staff, classifying each street in the system according <br />to i~s fuctional use and recommended approval of these maps. <br /> <br />A communication was presented from the Planning Commission <br /> <br />recommending the City Council in giving its concurance to <br /> <br />these two maps note to the Federal Government that in light <br /> <br />of the-current area wide transportation restudy that the <br /> <br />City would reserve the right to modify the funcational <br />classification map to bring them into conformance with the <br /> <br />new thoroughfare plan. On motion by Mr. Gilliam, seconded <br />by Mr. Fife the following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> <br />
