Resolution re: <br />Raffle Permit - <br />Charlottesville <br />Education Foundation <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Luther Morris - National <br />Blind Worker of the <br />Year <br /> <br />Consideration re: <br />Ordinance - Closing <br />& vacating an unnamed <br />street between Cole- <br />man St. and River Rd. <br /> <br />Consideration re: <br />Ordinance -.Closing & <br />vacating an alley <br />adjacent to Meriwether <br />Street <br /> <br /> .... NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council <br />of the C~tY~af Charlontesville that a permit be granted <br />to the Museum of Commerce to conduct raffles in accordance <br />with all the provisions ~ofr§19_36 of the Code of the <br />City of Charlottesville a period of one year from the <br />date of this resolution; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the <br />Council be directed to send a copy of this resolution to <br />the Bicentennial Commission. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Gilliam, seconded by Mr. Fife the <br />following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville Educational Foundation <br />has duly applied for a permit to conduct raffles in <br />compliance with §19-36 of the Code of the City of <br />Charlottesville, 1965, as amended; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has been determined that the <br />Charlottesville Educational Foundation meet~the qualifications <br />as outlined in §19-36; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council <br />of the City of Charlottesville that a permit be granted <br />to the Charlottesville Educational Foundation to conduct <br />raffles in accordance with all the provisions of §19-36 <br />of the Code of the City of Charlottesville for a period <br />of one year from the date of this resolution; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the <br />Council be directed to send a copy of this resolution <br />to the Superintendent of the Charlottesville Education~.~ <br />Foundation. <br /> <br />On motion by Mr. Gilliam, seconded by Mr. Fife the <br /> <br />following resOlution, was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, for over fifty years Luther Morris has <br />been a guiding light and inspiration to hundreds of fellow <br />workers at the Virginia Industries for the Blind and to <br />many other Charlottesville residents; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, throughout Luther Morris' many years <br />of service to his fellow man he has helped other blind <br />workers develop pride and self-respect in spite of <br />adversity and brought a refreshing joy for life to all <br />who have been associated with him; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, people throughout the nation have <br />recognized Luther Morris' unique contirhutions to young <br />and old, rich and poor, black and white, by naming him <br />Blind Worker of the Year, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of <br /> the City of Charlottesville that by this resolution the <br /> City Council wishes to express its pride and appreciation <br /> for the achievements of Luther Morris; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the <br />Council is directed to send a suitably prepared copy of <br />this resolution to Luther Morris as a token of esteem <br />in which he is held by this body. <br /> <br /> An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING <br /> <br />AND DISCONTINUING AN UNNAMED 50 FOOT STREET LYING BETWEEN <br />COLEMAN STREET AND RIVER ROAD IN THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE," <br />was offered by Mr. Gilliam, seconded by Mr. Fife and carried <br />over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING <br /> <br />AND DISCONTINUING A 15 FOOT ALLEY RUNNING IN A NORTHEASTERLY <br />DIRECTION FOR APPROXIMATELY 150 FEET FROM MERIWETHER <br />STREET," was offered by Mr. Gilliam, seconded by Mr. Van <br />Yahres and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> <br />
