Presentation: Ch'vill-Alb. <br />Clean Community Committee <br /> <br />Presentation: Annual <br />Financial Report <br /> <br />Consideration re: <br />Appropriation <br /> <br />General Fund to expenditure account 01-42130 as a grant <br />to the Monticello Area Community Action Agency for use <br />in conducting-a program of winter fuel relief for needy <br />citiZens of the city. Such grant shall be subject to <br />the eight conditionS recommended to be imposed thereon <br />by a motion adopted by the Social Development Commission <br />on October 12, 1978, a copy of which shall be kept on <br />file with the minutes of the Council meeting at which <br />this resolution is adopted. <br /> Mr. Harry Disston, Director of the Charlottesville- <br />Albemarle Clean Community Commission addressed the Council <br />and briefly outlined the concepts and programs of the <br />commission. He ~stated the objective was to change <br />Charlottesville and Albemarle County from a badly littered <br />area to a model clean community. He stated this will <br />be accomplished through changing peoples attitudes <br />regarding trash disposal, providing sufficient and <br />adequate recepticles for disposing of trash, gaining <br />cooperation of trash collection agencies, and establishing <br />a centralized recycling collection center. He stated <br />the objectives will be implemented through interesting, <br />involving.and utilizing civic service and neighborhood <br /> <br /> organizations, plants, stores, offices, schools and <br /> the university. He stated the commission is encouraged, <br /> supported and assisted b y t~e City Council of Charlottes- <br /> ville and the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, the <br /> Commonwealth of Virginia Division of Litter Control, <br /> the National Keep America Beautiful, the Charlottesville <br /> and Albemarle COunty Chamber of Commerce, radio, TV <br /> stations and the Dally Progress. He stated that the <br /> commissions ~efforts are concentrated on eleven specific <br /> and related programs and four are the direct responsibility <br /> of the commission and they will urge civic service and <br /> neighborhood associations to implement other programs in <br /> designated areas. <br /> <br /> Mr. Vic Mazziotti, Director of Finance addressed <br /> <br /> the Council and presented the Annual Financial Report <br /> for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1978. He stated that <br /> he was pleased to present the report earlier than the <br /> past year. He called attention to the new statistical <br /> section included in the report for the first time this <br /> year. Mr. Mazziotti noted that the City is in a strong <br /> financial position with a balance in the general fund <br /> in excess of 2.3 million dollars. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mrs. O'Brien the <br /> following resolution was offered and carried over to the <br /> next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> <br />
