2 <br /> Ms. Barbara Cruickshank, 700 Spring Lake Drive, Earlysville, a registered nurse <br />at U. Va., said that children are more vulnerable to the effects of radiation exposure, and <br />asked if we are willing to increase that risk. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Cruickshank, 700 Spring Lake Drive, Earlysville, representing the <br />Piedmont Group of the Sierra Club, said that nuclear power is not safe or clean and there <br />are problems with transportation and storage of nuclear waste in Louisa County. <br /> <br /> Ms. Carla Manno, 324 7 ½ Street, S.W., said the City has been approaching the <br />neighborhood regarding historic designation but there is opposition to the proposal. She <br />said the process has not been transparent and there needs to be more public notification of <br />meetings. <br /> <br /> Ms. Amanda Green, 1225 Park Street, representing Eagles Landing Apartments, <br />th <br />said that Eagles Landing will be sponsoring a blood drive on February 9. <br /> <br /> Ms. Andrea Wieder, 2331 Highland Avenue, said that a four-way stop is needed <br />at the intersection of Willard/Cherry and Cleveland, and signs need to be repaired and <br />reinstalled. She said pedestrians are in peril at the intersection. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ann Carter, 715 Orangedale Avenue, representing her mother, Janice Watson <br />Wicks, who lives in the Fifeville neighborhood, said her mother does not want her <br />property designated as historic and has not been asked if she wants it. <br /> <br /> Ms. Tatyanna Patton, 2209 Jefferson Park Avenue, alerted Council and citizens to <br />two bills in the General Assembly that will take public review away from waste water <br />management at the State level, and will put it in the hands of DEQ. <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter Kleeman, 407 Hedge Street, said he has been told by staff and VDOT <br />that there will be no impact study on the terminus of the Meadowcreek Parkway at <br />Melbourne Road, and he encouraged Council to conduct a study. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brandon Smith, no fixed address, said he does not feel that the special use <br />permit for the homeless day shelter has had a valid public discussion and hearing by <br />Council. He said he hopes Mr. Norris will recuse himself from voting on the matter. He <br />said there are severe problems in all shelters of this type that he knows of. <br /> <br />COUNCIL RESPONSES TO MATTERS BY THE PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch said he would not oppose allowing public comment on joint City <br />Council and Planning Commission public hearing items. <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton said she has received calls from residents of Fifeville opposed to <br />making their neighborhood an historic district. She said she hopes staff will be sensitive <br />to neighborhood concerns and what they want. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris agreed with Mr. Kleeman about the need for more traffic analysis of <br />the Meadowcreek Parkway at Melbourne Road. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch agreed with Mr. Norris. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said that the intersection of Willard, Cherry and Cleveland is on the <br />City Traffic Engineer’s agenda. He agreed that historic designation in Fifeville should <br />only be done with the enthusiastic support of the neighborhood. <br /> <br /> Mr. Taliaferro agreed and said that some people in African-American <br />neighborhoods feel that their property has been taken away in the past. <br /> <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br /> <br />
