2 <br /> Mr. Peter Kleeman, 407 Hedge Street, said that the proposed pond design for the <br />McIntire Road Extended project will interfere with the proposed interchange and the <br />design is incompatible. He urged Council to consider the road and interchange together <br />rather than independently. He asked Council not to approve the pond design. <br /> <br /> Ms. Jayne Allen, 2118 Angus Road, a real estate appraiser, said that 52 of 100 <br />appraisals she conducted recently were less than the City’s assessment. She said she <br />feels there are a lot of inconsistencies in assessments and has real concerns about it. <br /> <br /> Mr. Stratton Salidas, 704 Graves Street, said he feels the School Board was given <br />misinformation or low quality information about the easement for the Meadowcreek <br />Parkway. He said the School Board should have another opportunity for a vote on the <br />matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Downing Smith, 810 Locust Avenue, expressed concern about the agenda for <br />the water supply work session. He said too little time is given to discuss dredging. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fran Lawrence, 1729 Chesapeake Street, President of the Lewis and Clark <br />Exploratory Center, presented Councilors with coffee mugs and thanked them for their <br />support. <br /> <br /> Ms. Loren Monk, a U. Va. student, urged Council to consider divestment from <br />any company aiding the Sudanese government’s genocide in Darfur. <br /> <br /> Ms. Laura Harris, a U. Va. student, asked Council to divest all eligible funds from <br />companies aiding the Sudanese government in the defined benefit plan, and send a letter <br />to employees encouraging them to divest of all funds in the defined contribution fund. <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Brandon Smith said he is a past and future candidate for Council, and <br />a community activist. He said the Meadowcreek Parkway does not conform to the <br />guidelines for the sustainability accords. <br /> <br /> Mr. Raymond Mason, 717 Cynthianna Avenue, said the proposed Police <br />Department advisory board is a waste of time if they cannot hold the Chief accountable. <br />He asked Council to help the minority community and do something about the situation. <br /> <br />COUNCIL RESPONSES TO MATTERS BY THE PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja said he would like to support divestment, and asked staff to investigate <br />the issue and bring it back to Council at a future meeting. He said he hopes the students <br />will make the same request of U. Va.’s Board of Visitors. He said Mr. Lawrence <br />deserves credit for working on the Lewis and Clark Center. He said he agrees with the <br />need to coordinate the interchange and the pond. He said he would like to see more <br />discussion about the proposed police advisory board and have it appointed by Council. <br /> <br /> Mr. Taliaferro said he has discussed divestment with the Treasurer and she is <br />looking into it, but said it may take some time. Mr. Taliaferro said he would like to <br />discuss the process and appointments to the Police advisory board. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown thanked the U. Va. students for coming, and said he supports the <br />request. He said he understands that U. Va. has taken some action on divestment. <br />Regarding the BAR appeal, he said the Board of Architectural Review asked that no <br />landscaping be shown on the plans submitted so that they could better see the proposed <br />house. He said a landscaping plan will be submitted. He thanked Mr. Lawrence and the <br />Lewis and Clark group for doing a great job involving kids. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards echoed support for the U. Va.’s students’ request. She thanked Mr. <br />Lawrence for the coffee mug. She said she is aware of the history of mistrust of the <br />police by the minority community and would like to see the advisory board work. She <br />said she will watch it closely. <br /> <br /> <br />
