APPROPRIATION: <br /> (carried over) <br /> <br />$220,000 - Vinegar Hill ProjeCt <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: VIRGINIA SECRETARY OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br /> <br /> Mr. Lindsay Dorrier, Director of the Virginia Department <br />of Criminal Justice Services, explained that the Department <br />provides research and planning in the area of criminal <br />justice and announced three grants recently awarded to the <br />City by the State. <br /> <br /> Mr. Randolph Rollins, Virginia Secretary of Public <br />Safety, made a presentation to Council regarding violent <br />crime trends in Virginia, steps the administration has taken <br />to deal with violent crime, and future proposals for dealing <br />with crime. <br /> <br />~RESOLUTION: SPECIAL PERMIT FOR HIGHER DENSITY AT 416-422 17th <br />STREET, N.W. <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, <br />stated that the Planning Commission recommended approval of <br />the special permit for the following reasons: 1) It is in <br />harmony with the Land Use Plan of the Comprehensive Plan; and <br />2) It will not have a significant adverse impact on the <br />surrounding area if conditions are met. .~ ..... %~ ....... <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Slaughter, seconded by Mr. Toscano, the <br />resolution approving a special permit for higher density at <br />416-422 17th St., N.W. was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, james D. Stultz, on behalf of CBS Rentals, owner <br />of the Beta Bridge Apartments at 416-422 17th Street, N.W., <br />has requested a special use permit to add a twelfth dwelling <br />unit to the existing Beta Bridge Apartments; this property <br />being further identified as Parcels 8,9 and 10 on City Real <br />Property Tax Map 9, having approximately 157 feet of frontage <br />on 17th Street, N.Wo and containing approximately 157 feet of <br />frontage on 17th Street, N.W. and containing approximately <br />22~095 square feet of land or .51 acres; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, following a joint public hearing before this <br />Council and the Planning Commission, duly advertised and held <br />on September 14, 1993, this Council finds that such use will <br />conform to the criteria applicable to special permits <br />generally under Chapter 34 of the City Code; now, therefore <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that a special use permit is hereby <br />granted to James D. Stultz for the addition of a twelfth <br />dwelling unit to the existing Beta Bridge Apartments at <br />416-422 17th Street, N.W. <br /> <br /> The approval of this special use permit is conditioned <br />upon the following: <br /> <br /> 1. Administrative approval of the site plan with <br />adequate provision on site for a total of 30 parking spaces. <br /> <br /> 2. Reduction of the occupancy of the house at 422 17th <br />Street, N.W. from eight (8) occupants to four (4) occupants. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: REZONING PORTION OF 1013 LINDEN STREET FROM R-2 TO B-3 <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja stated that the Planning Commission recommended <br />approval of the rezoning for the following reasons: 1) It is <br />in harmony with the Comprehensive Plan/Land Use Plan; and 2) <br />The proposed use would be compatible with adjacent commercial <br />uses and uses planned for this area. <br /> <br /> <br />
