!01 <br /> <br />the status of acti~ties being undertaken by local housing programs and the availability of <br />funds for eligible housing activities. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: SL~PORT!NG THOMAS JEFFERSON VENTURJ~ REGIONA~I <br />STRATEGIC PLA_N <br /> <br /> Ms. O'Brien explained that the resolution will reaffirm Council's commitment to the <br />Thomas Jefferson Venture. Ms. O'Brien said that the plan has been made more clear, and <br />contains more specifics. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, the resolution supporting the <br />Thomas Jefferson Venture Regional Strategic Plan was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Charlottesville City Council agreed to jo~ with the localities of the <br />Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson to work toward meeting the <br />requirements of the Regional Competitiveness Act; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the group appointed by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District <br />Commission, named the Thomas Jefferson Venture, has written By Laws to g~aide the <br />operation of the Thomas Jefferson Venture; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Thomas Jefferson Venture has also developed and held hearings on a <br />Regional Strategic Plan; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Thomas Jefferson Venture Regional Strategic Plan identifies future <br />regional activities kn a five-year action plan including: <br /> <br />1) promotion of tourism and establishment of "heritage areas, <br /> <br /> 2) expansion of workforce tra/ning and specialized learning for adults and seconda~ <br />education; <br /> <br /> 3) creation of a regional com_mittee to seek regional consensus on strategies for <br />controlling sprawl; <br /> <br /> 4) creation of a regional partnership for development of emp!oymem centers in outlying <br />areas such as Zion Crossroads in Louisa and F!uvanna County and Lovingstoa/Col!een <br />corridor in Nelson County; <br /> <br />5) expansion of "Healthy Families" program to include entire planning district.; <br /> <br /> 6) review of regional housing plan and commitmem of funds to the regional housing <br />trust fund; <br /> <br /> 7) improvement of opportunities for affordable housing throughout the region through <br />examir~ation of!ocal land use ordinances and decision-making processes; and <br /> <br /> 8) creaion of a representative group of ckizens from the region to convene and identify <br />issues and strategies for improving race relations in the region. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville City Council is committed to a continued working <br />relationship with the other localities in the region to build on the strengths and diminish the <br />weaknesses of the region; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Charlottesxd!!e City Council <br />supports execution of the eight activities enumerated above and in the Thomas Jefferson <br />Venture Regional Strategic Plan. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: OPPOSING ABOLISHMENT OF PERSONAL PROPER_TY TAX <br /> <br /> <br />
