60 <br /> <br />ordinance be studied further and that small heavy dump trucks <br />be restricted. <br /> <br /> Ms. Peppy Linden of 511 North 1st Street recommended <br />that the matter be study further and that additional time be <br />given to provide input from the neighborhoods. <br /> <br /> Ms. Betty Siegner of the Fry's~Spring neighborhood, <br />stated ~that the signs restricting through truck ~traffic in <br />the Jefferson Park Avenue area have been helpful.and stated <br />her hope that truckers would voluntarily avoid driving <br />through~neighborhoods. · ~ <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Camblos of Watson Avenue, stated that he has <br />been hoping for the construction of Meadowcreek Parkway to <br />alleviate traffic on Park Street. <br /> <br /> Mr. Elmore May of Park Street requested that trucks be <br />restricted on Park Street. <br /> <br /> Mr~ Allan Kanter of 1122 park Street, stated that he was <br />opposed to designating .Park Street as a truck route. <br /> <br /> Ms. Melvin Moody of Belleview Avenue recommended that <br />trucks be encouraged to use Route 250 Bypass. <br /> <br /> Ms. Betty Black questioned ,why signs prohibiting through <br />truck ,traffic had been erected in the Jefferson Park Avenue <br />neighborhood and not off of .Park Street. <br /> <br /> Ms. Wilma Moody of Belleview Avenue recommended that no <br />truck signs be erected at the intersection of ROute 29 and <br />Rio Road to prevent trucks on Park Street. <br /> <br /> A resident of Sheridan Avenue noted his concern abo~ut <br />truck traffic next to' Northeast ~ark. <br /> <br /> As there were no further speakers, the public hearing <br />was closed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe acknowledged that a problem with through trucks <br />traffic exists but recommended that the matter be <br />re-evaluated in order~to identify a practical solution. Mr. <br />Towe recommended that staff meet with interested persons in <br />order to further discuss the matter.. ~ <br /> <br /> Mr. Vandever pointed out that the ordinance designating <br />truck routes had been one of the options proposed, to Council <br />because of the staff's realization that the problem exists <br />city,wide. Mr. Van-dever stated that it~ is obvious that'the <br />matter is extremely complicated and recommended that model <br />ordinances be obtained from other localities and that staff <br />organize a meeting with neighborhood representatives and <br />representatives from the trucking indUstry. Mr. Vandever <br />added that a better solution might be to restrict through <br />truck traffic on certain streets rather than designating a <br />comprehensive~ truck route system, <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix agreed that staff would organize an <br />additional meeting and present alternatives to Council at the <br />second meeting in Julyo Mr. Hendrix stated that the State <br />Department of Transportation would need to be apprOached <br />regarding placing a sign restricting trucks at the <br />intersection-of Route 29 and Rio Road which could take <br />several months. <br /> <br /> Mr.. Buck agreed that the ordinance prohibiting trucks on <br />certain streets might be the best alternative and recommended <br />that staff propose streets which should be included for <br />Council's consideration. <br /> <br /> Mr. Vandever made a motion to approve an ordinance which <br />would restrict through truck traffic in the Jefferson Park <br /> <br /> <br />
