RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR RECYCLING GRANT Mr, Hendrix explained that the resOlution would authorize the Public Works Department and Albemarle County to apply for a commercial recyCling demonstration grant from the State. On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the resolution authorizing ~the application for a recycling grant was unanimously approVed by Council. WHEREAS, there is a demonstrated need for the City to reduce the amount of refuse taken to the Ivy Landfill; and~ WHEREAS, the Solid Waste'Task Force has preliminarily recommended recycling to reduce the amount of commercial and residential refuse for disposal, and the Commonwealth of Virginia has mandated localities to achieve a recycling rate of 10% by July, 1991; and WHEREAS, the Virginia. Department of Waste Management has made available a grant (Recycling Demonstration Grant) in the amount of $40,000, with no lOcal match required, to implement recycling programs which will assist localities in achieving the projected recyCling rate; and WHEREAS, the County of Albemarle has expressed a desire to join in the application for such grant, with the City being the fiscal agent; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that the City supports a joint application with the County of Albemarle for a Recycling Demonstration Grant in the amount of $40,000, and authorizes the City Manager ~to take whatever steps necessary to apply for such grant, with or without the County as a co-applicant, on or before the application deadline.
