2. <br />Section 12-1. Terms defined. <br />• As used in this chapter, the terms "main" "main line" or "distribu- <br />tion line" shall mean a natural gas pipeline serving two or more retail <br />gas customers; the terms "connection", "service line" or "service connection" <br />shall mean a natural gas pipeline connecting the property of a single retail <br />gas customer to a main or distribution line. <br />Section 12-1.2. Main extensions. <br />(a) Prospective customers or groups of customers or developers of <br />operty not serviceable from existing city gas mains, or whose projected <br />s consumption would require an increase in the size of an existing_ main <br />v applv in writing to the gas superintendent for a main extension or <br />enlargement. <br />(b) If, in the opinion of the gas superintendent, the estimated annual <br />revenue to be received from such prospective customer or customers is <br />greater than one-half the estimated direct cost of the extension or enlarge- <br />ment, the gas division shalt <br />out charge to the customer. <br />(c) If, in the opinion of the gas superintendent, the estimated <br />direct cost of such extension or enlargement exceeds twice the estimated <br />•annual revenue to be derived therefrom, the gas division shall undertake <br />such extension or enlargement only after the customer advances to the ci <br />the amount of such excess. <br />(d) In no case shall the gas division be required to undertake such <br />main extension or enlargement if the gas superintendent determines that <br />the prospective revenues from such installation will not justify the city's <br />investment therein. <br />(e) No extension or enlargement of a main pursuant to subparagraphs <br />(b) or (c) of this section shall be undertaken by the gas division until <br />the prospective customer or customers sign an agreement to accept gas <br />service and continue the use thereof for at least one year following the <br />installation. In residential developments where the dwelling units will <br />be incomplete when the main is installed, such agreement shall be accompanied <br />by a payment from the developer of two hundred dollars for each dwelling <br />unit to be served by the main. Such deposit shall be refunded to the <br />developer, without interest, upon installation of the service connection to <br />such dwelling unit; provided that if the service connection is not installed <br />within three years following completion of the main, such deposit shall be <br />forfeited. <br />• <br />
