• <br />Pg. 6 <br />(4) A bachelor's degree in the study of engineering in a <br />curriculum directly related to the area of expertise, plus one (1) <br />year of practical experience in the specified area of expertise. <br />Section 5.05-10. Examination for determination of <br />qualifications; source; administration; <br />frequency of offering. <br />(a) Each applicant for level one or level two certification <br />must successfully answer in writing seventy-five percent of the <br />questions on an examination to be administered in writing by the <br />building official. <br />(b) The examination shall be based on the current pertinent <br />provisions of the Statewide Building Code and shall be provided to <br />the building official by the Virginia Department of Housing and <br />Community Development to be administered in accordance with standards <br />established by the director of such department. After certification <br />or denial of certification, the building official shall return the <br />graded exams to such department. <br />• (c) The building official shall offer the examination to <br />prospective applicants at least once every three months at a location <br />reasonably accessible to the applicants. Any person failing to pass <br />the examination may retake the examination; provided, that at least <br />six months pass between examinations. If such person fails a second <br />or subsequent time, one year must pass before the exam is retaken. <br />Section 5.05-11. Alternate qualification methods. <br />(a) Determination by the State Board of Contractors of compli- <br />ance with the requirements for licensing as a Class "A" contractor <br />is deemed substantial compliance with the requirements of this <br />article which relate to level two certification and waives the <br />necessity for formal compliance with such requirement or for payment <br />of a certification fee. <br />(b) Workers certified under an apprenticeship program which <br />is approved by the Virginia Apprenticeship Council shall not be <br />required to be examined locally, to obtain a local certificate or to <br />pay a local certificate fee. <br />Section 5.05-12. Reciprocity; exemption. <br />• (a) Workers certified in other Virginia localities, according <br />to state certification standards, need not be certified by the city <br />in order to do work or supervise work within the city. Certification <br />from other states will be considered on an individual basis. <br />
