AN ORDINANCE <br />TO AMEND AND REORDAIN ARTICLE I OF CHAPTER 16 <br />OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA, 1976, <br />AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 16-16 TO INCREASE <br />PARKING FINES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia: <br />1. That Section 16-16 of Article I of Chapter 16 of the Code of <br />the City of Charlottesville, 1976, as amended, is further amended, <br />as follows: <br />Section 16-16. Same - Parking violations. <br />(a) Every person receiving written notice from a police officer; <br />that he or she has committed any of the offenses hereinafter listed; <br />may waive his or her right to appear and be tried for the offense set <br />forth in the notice. Such waiver shall be effective upon voluntary <br />payment of tyre three dollars to the parking enforcement bureau in the <br />• city treasurer's office within forty-eight hours after receipt of <br />such notice or upon voluntarily placing twe three dollars in the reply <br />mail envelope on which the notice of violation is printed and mailing <br />it to the parking enforcement bureau in the city treasurer's office so <br />that it is postmarked within forty-eight hours after receipt of such <br />notice, or upon voluntarily placing the notice and tyre three dollars <br />in a "courtesy box" within forty-eight hours. Such person shall not <br />hereafter be required to appear before the general district court <br />for trial upon the charge set forth in such notice. Such offenses <br />shall include: <br />(1) Parking a vehicle longer than the time designated on signs <br />erected pursuant to section 16-35. <br />(2) Parking a vehicle in a parking meter zone longer than the <br />time designated in violation of sections 16-45 or 16-49. <br />(b) Every person receiving written notice from a police officer; <br />that he or she has committed any of the offenses hereinafter listed; <br />may waive his or her right to appear and be formally tried for the <br />offense set forth in the notice. Such waiver shall be effective upon <br />voluntary payment of three four dollars to the parking enforcement <br />• bureau in the city treasurer's office within forty-eight hours after <br />receipt of such notice or upon voluntarily placing three four dollars <br />in the reply mail envelope on which the notice of violation is printed <br />and mailing it to the parking enforcement bureau in the city treasurer's <br />
