E <br />RESOLUTION <br />SUPPORTING FEDERAL RE -REGULATION OF CABLE TELEVISION <br />WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Charlottesville <br />have registered their strong complaints about the costs and <br />quality of cable service in Charlottesville, Virginia; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville intends to use <br />whatever authority it has in its franchise ability to gain <br />the best possible service for area residents; and <br />WHEREAS, local elected officials throughout the nation <br />are urging re -regulation of cable by the Congress to protect <br />consumers from monopolistic practices by the cable television <br />industry; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of <br />the City of Charlottesville supports legislation to enact a <br />cable re -regulation bill in the U. S. Congress; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution <br />be sent to the Virginia Congressional delegation and to <br />• Representative Edward Markey, Chair, House Telecommunications <br />and Finance Subcommittee as well as to the Chairs of the <br />Senate and House Commerce Committees. <br />Approved by Council <br />April 1, 1991 <br />L. <br />C1 rk of City Cou cil <br />40 <br />
