BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville grants permission to Post No. 1827 of the <br />Veterans of Foreign Wars to conduct shooting matches on <br />their property located on River Road within the City <br />limits on Friday evenings beginning September 1, 1986 <br />through December 31, 1986; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council <br />be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Post 1827 <br />of the Veterans of FOreign Wars. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING STATE FUNDING FOR MONTICELLO AREA <br />COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY <br /> <br /> Mr. Ken Ackerman, Director of Monticello Area <br />Community Action Agency (MACAA), stated that community <br />action agencies throughout the State were hoping to gain <br />support for increased State funding in light of federal <br />budget cuts, and as part of that effort, local governments <br />were being requested to pass a resolution reflecting their <br />support. <br /> <br /> Mr. Vincent Uhl, a member of the MACAA board, that <br />that he felt MACAA was a tremendous benefit to the <br />community and requested that Council approve the <br />resolution. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that he would abstain from voting on <br />the resolution as he is a member of the Governor's task <br />force which is studying the effects of federal cuts on <br />social service programs. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Towe, Mr. Ackerman <br />stated that a similar resolution would be requested from <br />the other participating localities. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe asked what amount the community action <br />agencies were seeking from the State. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ackerman stated that a minimum of $1 million was <br />being sought and a maximum of $3.5 million which would <br />allow expansion into unserved areas, for all thirty <br />co~unity action agencies throughout the State. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Wiley <br />stated that the resolution would not legally bind the City <br />to provide additional financing. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Barnes, <br />the resolution supporting State funding for community <br />action agencies was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Monticello Area Community Action has been <br />designated by the City of Charlottesville as the official <br />community action agency for this jurisdiction and is a <br />partner with said jurisdiction in helping low income <br />persons and communities sustain themselves and improve <br />their standard of living; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Monticello Area Community Action Agency has <br />continued to serve the low income of this area with many <br />critical education and community development programs and <br />has benefited the total community from its resources and <br />cost savings; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has not until <br />now provided any funds to supplant revenue lost to the <br />core funding of community action which makes possible the <br />outreach~ planning, management and service capability <br />necessary to the continued success of these agencies; <br /> <br />BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED: <br /> <br /> <br />
