166 <br /> <br />overall harmony in the Charlottesville area; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the University of Virginia Student Council and <br />the Charlottesville City Council are dedicated to the <br />further improvement of this relationship~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the entire community would benefit from the <br />setting aside of a week to.concentrate its efforts toward <br />promoting interaction and understanding among all of its <br />members; be it therefore <br /> <br /> RESOLVED, that the week of April 6th through llth be~ <br />set aside for this purpose and be called "Sharing <br />Charlottesville;" and be it further <br /> <br /> RESOLVED, that the Charlottesville City Council and the <br />University of Virginia Student Council shall strive to <br />assure that events of this nature will be continued in the <br />coming years; and be it further <br /> <br /> RESOLVED, that the Charlottesville City Council and the <br />University of Virginia Student Council pledge themselves to <br />the maintenance of mutual goodwill and understanding between <br />the two communities. <br /> <br /> Ms. Forester listed the events planned for the week <br />which included the Mayor addressing the Student Council, a <br />Forum on Community Relations, and a performance by various <br />singing groups at Charlottesville High School. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: 1987 INNOVATIVE PUBLIC/PRIVATE PROGRAM AWARD - <br />"911 ASSOCIATES" <br /> <br /> Mr. John Pezzoli of Region Ten Community Services <br />introduced Mrs. LouiSe Cunningham of the Virginia Mental <br />Health and Mental Retardation Board. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Cunningham presented the Honorary Mention Award% <br />given by the State Board for the innovative public/private <br />venture of "911 Associates" to Mr. Eugene Williams, Mr. <br />Albert Williams, Mr. David Kudravetz, and Mr. George <br />McCallum. <br /> <br /> Mr. McCallum thanked the City for its help and support <br />with the project. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING: CITY MANAGER'S PROPOSED FY 87-88 BUDGET <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the Annual Appropriation <br />Ordinance included changes tentatively made by Council at <br />their work sessions. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason read a list of the recommendations for the <br />benefit of the public. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ruth Wadlington, representing the League of Women <br />Voters, praised the outstanding presentation of the budget, <br />but recommended that the availability of the budget and <br />Budget in Brief be better publicized. Increases for the <br />following programs were recommended: Meals on Wheels, Adu~-~. <br />Day Care, transportation and administration for the <br />Jefferson Area Board for Aging, general MACAA and JABA <br />programs, and funding to solve the general problems facin~ <br />JAUNT and the transportation problems of the handicapped. <br />Ms. Wadlington supported funding the MACAA Housing Counselor <br />from the general fund. Ms. Wadlington supported the <br />recommended budget of the School Board, but recommended that <br />better narrative be included in their budget document. Ms. <br />Wadlington supported the allocation for Budgeting and <br />Management in the Office of the City Manager, questioned the <br />amount recommended for the Thomas Jefferson Visitors Bureau, <br />and urged support for the request of the Thomas Jefferson <br />Planning District Commission. <br /> <br /> <br />
