282 <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br /> <br />BAND TRIP <br /> <br />$14,950 - LOAN FOR CHARLOTTESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that his daughter is now a member of <br />the CHS Band and he will therefore abstain from discussing <br />the matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the appropriation represented <br />the amount City Council had indicated it would be willing to <br />loan to the CHS Band if necessary to meet the payment <br />schedule for their planned trip to the Cotton Bowl Parade. <br /> <br /> Mr. Barnes requested that periodic reports be provided <br />to Council regarding the Band's fund raising efforts. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe stated that both the Charlottesville High <br />School and Albemarle High School bands will perform jointly <br />at the CHS vs. AHS football game during Julian King Night on <br />September llth. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />appropriation was offered and carried over to the next <br />meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $16,000 - GAS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that staff recommended continuing <br />the Gas Assistance Program which would provide $8,000 in <br />City funding to be matched by private donations. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />$16,000 appropriation for the Gas Assistance Program was <br />offered and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $4,296 - LITTER CONTROL GRANT <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the appropriation was a State <br />grant which is received by the City and turned over to CAC3 <br />for the litter control program. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Mr. Towe, the <br />$4,296 appropriation for the Litter Control Grant was <br />offered and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPOINTING VIEWERS TO CONSIDER CLOSING A PORTION OF <br />BOOKER STREET AND A PORTION OF AN ALLEY OFF PRESTON AVENUE <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, <br />Council unanimously approved the resolution appointing <br />viewers to consider closing a portion of Booker Street and a <br />portion of an alley off Preston Avenue. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has received a petition from Dr. <br />Martin Albert requesting vacation of a portion of Booker <br />Street adjacent to parcels 82,83 and 96 on City Real <br />Property Tax Map 36, and a portion of an alley off Preston <br />Avenue Jefferson Street adjacent to parcels 76, 79, 82 and <br />83, also on City Real Property Tax Map 36; <br /> WHEREAS, it appears to council that the notice required <br />by Section 15.1-364 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as <br />amended, has been duly advertised; now, therefore <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that Ms. Mary Jane Haynes, Messrs. <br />W. J. Copeland and H. P. Winn, Jr. report in writing to <br />Council what inconvenience, if any, would result from such <br />vacation. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: GUARANTEE OF COMPLETION OF TURN LANES OFF AVON <br />STREET EXTENDED <br /> <br /> <br />
