213 <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano said that he thinks the relocation is a good idea and asked how <br />notification of voters will occur. <br /> <br /> Ms. Sue Lucas, Voter Registrar, said that she is required by law to send notices to <br />every registered voter in the precinct and more than one notice could be sent. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Ms. Richards~ Ms. Lucas said that the Electoral Board <br />has already discussed the possibility of using police to help with traffic at Tonsler Park. <br /> <br /> MrL COX said he appreciates the thoroughness of the process followed by the Electoral <br />Board and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate another African American, Benjamin <br />Tonsler. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, the ordinance entitled "AN <br />ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REORDAINING SECTION 9-29 OF ARTICLE II OF <br />CHAPTER 9 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1990, AS <br />AMENDED, RELATING TO A CHANGE IN THE NAME OF THE CENTRAL FIRE <br />STATION PRECINCT AND ITS POLLING PLACE," naming the Precinct Benjamin <br />Tonsler Precinct, was offered and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />REPORT: HISTORIC RESOURCES TASK FORCE <br /> <br /> Mr. Coy Barefoot, 716 Mclntire Road, Chair of the Historic Resources Task Force, <br />recommended that the Task Force be reappointed in order to continue to find ways to <br />promote and preserve the rich heritage of the Charlottesville community. Ms. Barefoot said <br />there are currently very few opportunities for tourists and citizens to promote local history. <br />Mr. Barefoot presented a slide show reflecting the history of the area. Mr. Barefoot said that <br />the Task Force would like to use the State's historical marker program and a local marker <br />program at entrances to neighborhoods. <br /> <br /> 1Mr. Cox said he feels that the Task Force has been one of the City's most successful <br />task forces and he appreciates the emphasis on neighborhoods. <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano said he would favor extending the ad hoc task force to 6 months or a <br />year, as appropriate, and suggested that the Task Force consider where its recommendations <br />should be passed on when the Task Force ends, such as the private sector, Historical Society, <br />City government or Tourism council. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty suggested that the Task Force make a presentation to the School Board <br />about their recommendation to increase local history for students. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty said she would favor extending the existence of the Task Force for a <br />year. <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Strategic Planning, said that it may be helpful to add a <br />few more members to the Task Force. <br /> <br />Mr. Cox made a motion to extend the Task Force for a year. <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano suggested that a stipulation be added that the Task Force provide a report <br />to Couneit' in October. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty seconded Mr. Cox's motion, with Mr. Toscano's stipulation, and the <br />Historic Resource~ ~orce was extended for a year. <br /> <br />REPORT: TRIP TO CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE <br /> <br /> Ivir. Huja provided arreport on the trip taken to Chattanooga, Tennessee by 23 people <br />fi:om the City, County, University, and business community.
