Minutes of April 14 <br /> <br />c..RESOLUTION: Thomas Jefferson Venture Regional Competitiveness Act <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville has supported the creation of the Thomas <br />Jefferson Venture through the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesv~le has committed staff time and effort to <br />developing the Strategic Plan; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville committed funds for an initial study of <br />the Zion Crossroads area as a result of cooperative efforts undertaken through the <br />partnership with Louisa and Fluvanna Counties and is in continuing discussion with the <br />two localities regarding how a cooperative venture might occur in the future through the <br />Competitiveness Program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Heritage Tourism Program is consistent with efforts underway <br />in theCity to preserve and protect historic areas such as Court Square, to which the City <br />has committed funds for preservation and promotion of the Square as an area meeting <br />heritage criteria; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, through the Regional Tourism Council the City of Charlottes-vSlle <br />commits $300~000 per year for regional tourism efforts which will be enhanced tl~,~ough <br />Heritage Tourism; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, creating jobs for City residents and rural residents is an important <br />part of the City's own strategic plan where the City is committing significant resources to <br />the revitalization of West Main Street; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the creation of the regional housing fund is important to addressing <br />the needs of employees in the region in relationship to their incomes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, expansion of the successful role the Charlottesville Albemarle <br />School Business Alliance in linking K-12 students with the real world of employment in <br />all'fields; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Piedmont Virginia Community College is the prime workforce <br />development institution, providing special training to incoming industries, tailoring <br />training opportunities to workforce employment opportunities, and areas of the health <br />care industry; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BElT RESOLVED that the Charlottesville City Council <br />does hereby endorse the Thomas Jefferson Venture Strategic Plan and commits itself to <br />continue the cooperative relationships formed under this unique collaborative; <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council requests the Virginia <br />Department of Housing and Community Development to coffer certification on the <br />Thomas Jefferson Venture. <br /> <br />d.
