Mr, Romenesko said a four lane road will not consume much <br />more of the park than a two lane, and he cannot support a road that wilt be obsolete when <br />it opens. Mr. Romenesko said customers need to be linked to downtown. <br /> <br /> Mr, Robert Tobey, owner of a business at 1140 E. Market Street, said the <br />Parkway is needed for economic revitalization for downtown and West Main Street, and <br />-supported Mr. Rietey's four-lane design, which wilt relieve neighborhood congestion. <br /> <br /> Mr. Francis Fife, 501 9~ Street, S.W., opposed the Meadowcreek Parkway, and <br />instead supported modifying Rio Road to make it safe and installing traffic lights. Mr. <br />Fife asked Council to purchase additional' parkland with the County. <br /> <br /> Ms. Allison Ruffner, 223 Douglas Avenue, opposed the Meadowcreek Parkway <br />and said people should use public transportation. Ms. Ruffner said obscene development <br />will occur along the Parkway. <br /> <br /> Ms. Barbara Rich, 767 Madison Avenue, supported a four-lane Meadowcreek <br />Parkway. Ms. Rich said that Park Street and Rio Road need relief and cars are here to <br />stay. <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter Kleeman, 407 Hedge Street; said that he isa traffic engineer, and <br />expressed concern that data for the intersection is not available from VDOT. Mr. <br />Kleeman said Council should get more data before making a decision about the Parkway. <br /> <br /> Mr. Paul Saunier, 1400 Rugby Road, thanked Council for commissioning the <br />Rieley report and a design which will locate the road near the park's edge only, will take <br />no houses, and will be a safer and more efficient way to bring people downtown. Mr. <br />Saunier saidhe is afraid a vote for a two-lane road will be seen by VDOT as a vote to kill <br />the project. Mr. Saunier said work needs to be done on the interchange. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ben Bates~ 106 Camerone Lane~ also speaking on-behalf of his wife, Susan, <br />said he is vehemently opposed to building the road through the park. Mr. Bates said he <br />does not think building the road wilt accomplish anything, the intersection will be <br />horrible, and it will split the City in haIf. <br /> <br /> Mr. Greg Jackson, 6t 3 Belmont Avenue, said that Mctntke Park is important to <br />the community and the road is not the solution to the problem. Mr. Jackson said the <br />question is what do we value. <br /> <br /> Mr. Russell Perry, 1626 St. Anne's Road, a small business person, said that the <br />Chamber of Commerce does not speak for him in its support of the Parkway. Mr. Perry <br />said the City needs to find real long-term solutions and should look beyond expedient <br />solutions. <br /> <br />Mr. WendalI Showatter, 1121 Park Street, supported the Parkway. <br /> <br /> Ms. Frances Sebring, 1 I08 Park Street, said she lives and works on Park Street <br />and easily secured signatures of 50 people who support the Parknvay. Mr. Sebring said a <br />better road than the current two lane curvy road is needed. Ms. Sebring said the City has <br />invited economic development do~mtown and now needs a way to get downtown. <br /> <br /> Ms~ Margaret Delaney Miller, 1106 Park Street, said she is legally blind, supports <br />the Parkway, and is concerned about the safety of Park Street for c~fldren. Ms. Mitler <br />said she uses JAUNT for transportation and it is.very difficult for their vans to getout in <br />to the Park Street traffic. <br /> <br /> Ms, Townley Cole, 1106 Park Street, implored Council to approve Meadowcreek <br />Parkway. Ms. Cole said that it has been wonderful since Rio Road has been closed. Ms. <br />Cole said Park Street needs traffic calming now. <br /> <br /> Ms. Lauren Cooper, 13t0 Florence Road, said the City is considering a 40-year <br />old solution to the problem and the City needs to. give relief to neighborhoods with new <br />solutions. <br /> <br /> <br />
