102
Gentlemen:
Attached please find copy of a report on the Joint Health Depart-
ment submitted by Dr. Lawson of the University. This report has
Report re: been prepared at the request of the City, and shows the services
Joint Health rendered to the City and County by the Joint Health Department.
Department The table on Page 12 in this report shows that approximately
73jo of the nursers time and 909 of the travel is expended in the
County.
From the findings of the University authorities it is recommended
that the City pay $7,800.00 and the County $7,200.00 towards this
Department. However, the question of the quarters for this Depart-
ment was not considered in this report, and I would recommena that
a committee be appointed by the Mayor and request a similar committee
from the Board of Supervisors to make some adjustment of the rental
for the Joint Health Department.
SB:vL
Respectfully submitted,
Seth Burnely (signed)
Member Joint Health Board
The following report was unanimously adopted:
February 31 1940
Council of the City of Charlottesville,
Charlottesville,
Virginia.
Gentlemen:
At the last council meeting there was referred
Ethel E. to me for investigation and report claim of Ethel E. Stockton, the
,Stockton claim dainage resulting from stepping into a meter box.
An investigation of the facts does not disclose that T1irs.
Stocktonts injury was caused by any negligence on the part of any
city employee, and I therefore recoimnend that the claim be denied.
Very truly yours,
Lyttelton Waddell (signed)
City Attorney
The following report was unanimously adopted:
February 51 1940
The Council of the City
of Charlottesville
Charlottesville, Virginia
Gentlemen:
The case of Alice Hill Jones against the City has been
set for trial on February 13th.
Alice Mill Jones
Claim Mr. Sadler who represents the plaintiff has offered to
accept `75.00 in settlement of the case. While I do not feel
that there is much chance of a recovery in this case, there is
a possibility that there might be an adverse verdict of the jury,
and that in order to win the case it might be necessary to take
it to the Court of Appeals. I feel that t'ae chances are that
we would win in the lower Court, but there is a possibility of j
recovery and if there is a recovery it will be in an amount I
considerably more than $75.00. Under these circumstances I
recommend that the case be settled by payment of X75.00 and
costs to date.
Very truly yours,
Lyttelton Waddell (signed)
City Attorney
The following resolution was unanimously adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that
Appropriation $85.00 or as much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same is hereby
Alice Hill Jones
Claim appropriated for settlement and costs of the Alice Hill Jones claim.
On notion the meeting adjou d.
Clerk President
