<br />KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS: That
<br />Dog Fund Bill On motion a bill against the Dog Fund in amount of *0.75 was approved for payment.
<br />On motion the Council went into Executive Session with the following recorded
<br />vote: Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, sr. Huff, Mr. Jessup, and Mr. Peyton. Noes:None.
<br />Special Communications from the Mayor stating that he had appointed Joe ticGuffin as a
<br />Policeman
<br />Special Policeman to be night watchman and employed by the Barnes Construction
<br />Company on the new White High School project; and that he had appointed Bernard L.
<br />Extra Coles as an extra policeman, were presented, and on motion by Dr. ITaden, these
<br />Policeman
<br />appointments were unanimously ratified.
<br />A resolution from the County Board of Supervisors of k1bemarle County relative to
<br />to the Joint Health Department was presented. The following contract was read,
<br />considered, and approved, ancd on motion by Dr. Haden, the Mayor and Cler,� of the
<br />Joint Health Council were authorized and instructed to execute t_iis contract on behalf of the
<br />Department

<br />THE COUNTY OF ALBE� ARLE, CITY OF CT-T'RLOmTESVILLE AND THE UNIVERSITY
<br />OF VIRGINIA.
<br />vgHEREAS, the County of Albemarle, Citir of Ch,-.rlottesville, and the
<br />University of Virginia, are so situated v:-ith reference to each other that public
<br />health in said county, City and University can best be promoted by the establish-
<br />ment and maintenance of a single Health Department with control of these t1iree
<br />populations; and
<br />WHEREAS, one Health Department for the three communities can be more
<br />economically and successful) operated, and such department will best protect
<br />the health of the entire neighborhood; and
<br />'UTHEREAS, the City of Ch_rlottesville has purchased from Georgia Indus-
<br />trial Realty Company a tract of land in the City of Charlottesville,
<br />Virginia, fronting on the northeast side of Preston Avenue and lying east
<br />of Southern Railway, being the property which Georgia Industrial Realty
<br />Company acquired from F. M. Huyett on JanuLLry 8, 1916, ancd has, also,
<br />acquired, or will acquire, additional property lying between said tract
<br />acquired from Georgia Industrial Realty Com -,any and the right of way of
<br />Southern Railway , which last mentioned property is traversed by a street
<br />known as Pearl Street of the City of Charlottesville, extending from
<br />Preston Avenue northeastwardly to the right of way of the Southern Railway
<br />Company; and
<br />WHEREAS, the City desires that saia Pearl Street shall be closed so as
<br />to solidify all the area which it has purchased, or will purchase, as herein-
<br />bef Dre recited; and
<br />,,71TTEREAS, said Pearl Street has heretofore been used by patrons of
<br />•
<br />Southern Railway Company and persons doing business with it for the
<br />pury_)ose of reaching its team tracks by entrance into said Pearl Street
<br />at Preston Avenue and thence traversing the same to said team trac'>s;
<br />NOV! THEREFORE, Southern Railway Company for good and sufficient
<br />considerations it thereunto moving, hereby agrees that upon condition that

<br />the Citir of Charlottesville shall make i,�ha.tever repairs are necessary to

<br />Dale Avenue in order that the patrons and persons doing business with
<br />,-�
<br />Southern Railway Company may reaclia its team tracrLs by going through
<br />Preston Avenue to Harris Street, thence along Harris Street to Dale Avenue

<br />and thence along Dale Avenue to its present team trac-is, so that said Dale
<br />Avenue may be put in condition for use by vehicles approaching said team
<br />tracks, and will, thereafter, maintain and keep said Dale Avenue in such
<br />c Dndition in accordance with agreement heretofore made with Southern
<br />Railway Company by Seth Burnley, City Tanager, Southern Railway Company
<br />and hereby does, consent and agree tiLat said Pearl Street may be permanently
<br />closed and abandoned.
