AN ORDIANCE DEFINING CERTAIN DUTIES OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE <br /> <br /> (Adopted July 13, 1905) <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE: <br /> <br />That it is the duty of the Chief of Police to enforce obedience to all ordinances of <br /> <br />the Council; he is expected to pay frequent visits at uncertain house to various portions <br /> <br />of the City, and thus be able to observe all violation of ordinances, and to supervise the <br /> <br />conduct of the police force. <br /> <br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br /> <br />Presented July 15, 1905; Approved July 15, 1905. <br /> <br />President of Common Council Signature <br />Mayor’s Signature <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE KEEPING OF HOGS IN THE CORPORATE LIMITS. <br /> <br />(Adopted July 13, 1905) <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE: <br /> <br />That hogs shall not be kept within the City Corporate limits. Neither shall hogs be <br /> <br />kept in pens nor small enclosures within one-quarter of a mile of the City Corporate limits <br /> <br />except from November 1st, to March 31st, and then only by permit from the City Board of <br /> <br />Health. PENALTY one dollar a day for each hog. <br /> <br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br /> <br />Presented July 15, 1905; Approved July 15, 1905. <br /> <br />President of Common Council’s Signature <br />Mayor’s Signature <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE: <br /> <br />1. – That children shall be prohibited for attending all public gatherings in the City <br /> <br />and within one mile of the City limits until further notified by the Health Officer. <br /> <br />Any violation of this ordinance will subject the child to ten days quarantine. <br /> <br />2. – That any person entering the premises of any house under quarantine shall be <br /> <br />Isolated as a suspect for ten days. <br /> <br />3. – That any case of Scarlet Fever shall upon diagnosis immediately be reported to the <br /> <br />Health Officer who shall visit the case and in his discretion establish a strict quarantine <br /> <br />Of all persons on the infected premises, resorting to guards when necessary, or remove <br /> <br />The case to the City Hospital, when persons remaining shall be quarantined for ten days <br /> <br />If he deems it necessary. He shall report the names of all cases and suspects to the <br /> <br />Chief of Police who shall cause the arrest and removal to the detention camp of any <br /> <br />person disobeying the quarantine orders. <br /> <br />4. - That any person within the City Limits or within one mile of said limits <br /> <br />who shall knowingly fail to report to a physician any contagious disease occurring on <br /> <br />the premises where such person or persons reside, shall be fined not less than fifty <br /> <br />dollars ($50.00) per case. <br /> <br />5. – That a detention camp be provided for by the Board of Health for the purpose <br /> <br />Indicated in the above ordinance. <br /> <br />6. – That all dogs and cats on the [remises of houses where Scarlet Fever exists shall <br /> <br />be either killed or placed in a detention cage in charge of the Chief of Police until such <br /> <br />houses have been fumigated, except when the owner will make such detention of the <br /> <br />said animals as shall be satisfactory to the Health Officer. <br /> <br />7. – That the above ordinances in reference to Scarlet Fever shall to Diphtheria, <br /> <br />Small Pox and to such other contagious diseases as shall be designated by the Health <br /> <br />Board. <br /> <br />(over)
