<br />AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING A LICENSE TAX FOR DANCE HALLS.
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE,That on every license to a person
<br />
<br />or firm to conduct a dance hall in which dancing is to be allowed, where an admission
<br />
<br />fee is charged, or a charge is made for participating in such dancing, the tax shall
<br />
<br />$50., and no such license shall be granted until such person or persons shall be
<br />
<br />secured the consent of the Mayor, who shall satisfy himself that the person or persons
<br />
<br />applying are proper persons to conduct such hall, and that the location is suitable
<br />
<br />such purpose, and it is further provided that any such dance hall shall be subject to
<br />
<br />such rules and regulations as now, or may hereafter ,be prescribed by the Council,
<br />
<br />Not transferable. No pro rata.
<br />
<br />This ordinance shall be in force from and after May 1,1909.

<br />WOOD OR COAL DEALERS AND MERCHANTS LOCATED OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS.
<br />
<br />LLICENSE TAX REQUIRED THEREFROM ON VEHICLES HABITUALLY USED ON THE STREETS
<br />
<br />OF THE CITY FOR THE DELIVERY OF SUCH ARTICLES.
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, That on every wagon or cart
<br />
<br />any wood or coal dealer or merchant, whose place of business is located outside of the
<br />
<br />city limits, and who habitually uses the streets of the city to deliver such wood,
<br />
<br />coal or other merchandise, the license tax shall be $10.
<br />
<br />The Commissioner of the Revenue shall supply to every such wagon or cart the __
<br />
<br />license number, as provided for all other vehicles.
<br />
<br />This ordinance shall be in effect on and after May 1,1909.
<br />

<br />MOVING PICTURE MACHINES, PHOTOGRAPHS, GRAPHOPHONES, ETC
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, That for the exhibition of any
<br />
<br />automatic moving picture machine, phonograph, graphophone, or similar musical machine,
<br />
<br />extent for benevolent, charitable, or educational purposes ,where the price of admission
<br />
<br />to such exhibition does not exceed the sun of ten cents, there shall be paid a license
<br />
<br />fee of three dollars for each week, or less time than a week, or sixty dollars for the
<br />
<br />exhibition thereof for a period of one year; the license for one year to be paid
<br />
<br />quarterly, and a license for a period exceeding one week to be based upon the per
<br />
<br />anniuu license fee: provided, however, that when such exhibition is given for benevolent,
<br />
<br />charitable or educational purposes and is given for a period of more than one week in
<br />
<br />any one year and the exhibitor thereof receives a part of the receipts from such
<br />
<br />exhibition as his compeneation, then such exhibition after the first week shall not
<br />
<br />exempt from the payment of the license fee herein prescribed.
<br />
<br />This ordinance shall be in force from and after May 1,1909.
