<br />AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING A LICENSE TAX FOR DA'j\'CE :HALLS.
<br />BE IT ORDAINED,BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTE SVILLE,That on every license to a perso,
<br />or firm to conduct a dance hall in which dancing is to be allowed,where an admi$sio,
<br />fee is charged,or a charge is made for participating in such dancing,the tax shall
<br />$50., and no such license shall be granted until such person or persons shall hays
<br />secured the consent of the 11'ayor,who shall satisfy himself that the person or Perto4
<br />applying are proper persons to conduct such hall,and that the location is suitablell
<br />such purpose, and it is further provided that any such dance hall shall be subject to
<br />such rules and regulations as now,or may hereafter,be prescribed by the Council,

<br />This ordinance shall be in force from and after Yay 1,1909.

<br />BE IT ORDAINED,BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, That on every wagon or cart
<br />any wood or coal dealer or merchant,whose place of business is located outside of the
<br />city limits, and who habitually uses the streets of the city to deliver such wood, Er
<br />coal or other merchandise, the license tax shall be $10.
<br />The Commissioner of the Revenue shall supply to every such wagon or cart the ue
<br />license number,as provided for all other vehicles.
<br />This ordinance shall be in effect on and after �*ay 1,1909.

<br />automatic 1noving picture machine ,phonoRraph,graphophone,or similar musical nachineo
<br />extent for benevolent , charitable , or educational purposes ,where the price of admiesioa
<br />to such exhibition does not exceed the sun of ten cents, there shall be paid a lice
<br />fee of three dollars for each week,or less time than a week,or sixty dollars forth'
<br />exhibition thereof for a period of one year;the license for one year to be paid
<br />quarterly, and a license for a period exceeding one week to be based upon the per
<br />anniuu license fee: provided, however, that when such exhibition is given for benevolent,
<br />charitable or educational purposes and is given for a period of more than one weed ip
<br />any one year and the exhibitor thereof receives a part of the receipts from such
<br />exhibition as his wompeneation ,then such exhibition after the first week shall not
<br />exempt from the payment of the license fee herein prescribed.
<br />This ordinance shall be in force from ar,d after Tray 1,1909.
