eTM15 <br />Corf I TT EE9 . <br />J-55 <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE C UMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CRARLOTTESVILLE, THE BOARD OF <br />ALPERVEN CONCURRII`NIx, That Sec. 12 cf the City Code entitled "Standing Committees: <br />Kow appointed: Expenditures of" be amended and reenacted to read as follows: <br />SEC.12. STANDING COM41 TTF.Ea : NOW APPOIFTEP : EXPENT)ITURES OF. <br />The business of the City of Charlottesville shall be transacted throug', and by <br />Committees of the respective bodies, except as otherwise legally provided by law. <br />There scall be eight (8) committees whose names, powers and duties scall be hereinafter <br />set forth. Each committee of the Board of Aldermen shall be composed of one member <br />of said board, and each committee of the Common Council stall be composed of two <br />members of said Council, except that the Finance, Committee of the Board of Aldermen <br />shall be conposed of the President and one other member, and the rinance Committee of <br />the Common. Council shall be composed of the President and two other members. <br />The Presidents of the respective bodies shall, as soon as convenient, appoint <br />suc Corrmitt ees who shall continue in office for the term of the said Board of <br />Aldermen and Common Council, provided, however, that the presidents of the respective <br />bodies shall have authority to cl-ange the membership of the said committees for their <br />respective bodies during said .term in filling vacancies, or otherwise as necessity <br />arises. The said fespective committees acting together and jointly are hereby <br />authorized to expend from time to time out of appropriations made for their department <br />sums of money not exceeding 4200. for work to be done in their respective departments <br />without special authority from the Board of Aldermen and Common Council for such <br />expense. Any and all expenditures Made by said committee shall be reported to the <br />Board of Aldermen and Common Council at the next regular meeting of said respective <br />bodies. All vouchers for expenditures made by such committees, or for expenditures <br />made by special authority of the Board of Aldermen and Common Council, shall be approved <br />by the chairman of the committee in whose department the expenditure is made. <br />The desi7nation, classification, power, duties, etc, of which said. committee <br />shall be as follows: <br />No.1.F11TANCE COTAVITTEE. All matters relating to the finances, assets, liabilities, <br />revenues, and all claims and all unsettled demands, shall be referred to this committee. <br />#2. STREETCOFITITTEE: All matters concerning the streets and bridges, the laws and <br />regulations affecting the same and all matters relating to the sanitary condition of <br />the city s1nall be referred to tris corTritt ee. <br />#3. WATER AND SEWERAGE COYA'ITTEE: All matters relating to the control and management <br />of the city water works and sewerage system, pumps, fire plugs, reservoir, water <br />supply and rules, all rules and regulations and revenue and expenditures connected <br />therewith, shall be referred to this committee. <br />#4. GAS AND LIGHT COM=TEF: All matters concer. ring the gas works and light of the <br />city, all rules and regulations and revenue and expenditure connected therewith, scall <br />be referred to this comnitteu. <br />#5. GRUUND ANP .nUILDING CO?.+WITTEE: All matters pertaining to tre public ground and <br />buildings of the city, and the erection of buildings within the fire limits of the <br />city, shall be referred to tris committee. <br />#6. ORIIIANCE ANT) RUIE C011FLITTEE: All general ordinances, or wrendments thereof, <br />shall be referred to this committee for examination and report for the passage thereof. <br />#7. CE19;TEFY C(JI,KYITTEE: All matters pertaining to the ceneter.ies of th.e city, rules <br />and regulations for the burial of the dead, and all revenue and expenditure connected <br />therewith, shall be referred to this committee. <br />#8.
