<br />An Ordinance araendina and re-enacting* Sec.282 of City Code, which was amended and
<br />re, -enacted Aucust 8,1912:
<br />Be it Ordained, by the Common Council of Charlottesville, the Board of Aldermen
<br />Concurring, That S-ction 282 of the City Cede, above .referred to, be amended and
<br />re-enacted to read as follows:
<br />Sec,282I Sec. 282. VIOLATION OF SABBATTr: TTOW PUNISF-TET).
<br />Violation of
<br />Sabbath. If any person, on the Sabbath day, sells what is commonly known as soft drinks
<br />orother beverages, fruits, candies, or ogler confectionaries, or be found laboring
<br />at ar!y trade or calling, or employ his apprentices or servante in labor or other
<br />business, except in household or other work of necessity or charity, ',a scall be
<br />deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction 0,eareof shall be fines not loss
<br />than $5. (five dollars) for each offense. Tvery day any p e rsor or servant or
<br />apprentice is so employed shallconstitute a distinct offense and the Court in
<br />or. t}ne Justice by whom any judgement of convjction is rendered may require of tl,e
<br />person so convicted a recognizance in a penalty of not less than one hundred dollars
<br />( $100. ) nor more than five liund ,r:,,,d doll ars (4500. ) , with or with out security, condi -
<br />tinned that suel, person shall be of good behavior, and .specially to refrain frog a
<br />repetition of suer offenee, for a period not exceeding twelve montes.

<br />of the State for the City to carry its own insurance risks in compliance with a
<br />provision of the Vi r7inia Workmarns' Compensation Act:
<br />Whereas the cast of t -he accidents of this city during the past twenty years have
<br />been small and Wlrer.eas the Virginia Workmans' Cpmriensation Act, under wrich we are
<br />forced to operate, ras many restrictions or, carnage suits possiblfl under the old
<br />law and yet it may open up some avenues of claims 'but we are of the opinion teat the
<br />City should carry its own insurance, therefore be. it
<br />Rcsolved,by the Common Council, the Board of Aldermen concurring,
<br />That the City >,Ianager be and lie is liereby enpowered to file tl,e necessary
<br />papers with the Industrial Cor,r:iission of Virginia before tl e 1-st day of February,
<br />and pay the 4% premium on the estimated cost of insurance based on the ray roll,
<br />required by thus A.ct.
