THIS CONTRACT, made this 3rd day of March, 1924, between the City of Charlottesville, hereinafter called the City, party of the first part, and the County of Albemarle hereinafter called the County, party of the second part. WHEREAS, at a meeting of the committee of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and a meeting of the Committee of the Council of the City of Charlottes- ville held at the City Hall on the 15th day of February, 1924, to consider the unsettled accounts between the City and County covering a period from 1908 to date, and WHEREAS, at said meeting the provisions contained in this contract were agreed upon subject to the approval of the City and County, now, therefore, this contract, WITNESSETTH: That for and in consideration of the premises and the mutual agreements hereinafter contained, it; appearing that the unsettled claims of the City against the County are practically off set by the claims which the County may have against the City, it is agreed between the County and the City that their mutual accounts shall be considered to balance on September 1st,1923, and new records kept from that date. It is further agreed that the City shall pay three fifths (3/5) of all costs of operation and maintainance of the Courthous, Jail, and Clerks Office and that the county shall pay two fifths (2/5) of these costs. In ctise of any exten- sive alterations or permanent implcovements to the property, the costs of such alterations or improvements snall be borne wqually by the City and County. They City is to pay its share of the insurance on these buildings in the same proportion as other operating expenses. The County is to pay its share of water taxes in the same proportion as the other operating costs. Said water tax is to be at the rate of one hundred dollars ($100.00) per annlim for the terms of this contract. This agreement shall be effective and retroactive as of September 1st, 1923, and shall continue to operate for a period of rive years and thereafter until can- celled as herein provided. After the five year period either the Board of Super - Visors of the Jounty or the Council of the City upon sixty days notice may terminate this agreement. In testimony whereof, J.M. Fray Chaixman of the Board of Supervisors of Albemarle County, has executed this contract on behalf of said County, the seal of said County having been duly affixed hereto and attested by W.L. Maupin its Clerk, and the City of Charlottesville has caused its name to be signed hereto by H. A. Haden, its mayor and the Corporate seal hereunto affixed and attested by BOARD OF SUPERVIORS OF ALBEMARLE COUNTY
