THI11 CONTRACT, made this 3rd day of March, 1924, between the City of <br />Charlottesville, hereinafter called the City, party of the first part, and the <br />County of Albemarle hereinafter called the County, party of the second part. <br />WHEREAS, at a meeting of the committee of the Albemarle County Board of <br />Supervisors and a meeting of the Committee of the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br />ville held at the City Hall on the 15th day of :+'ebruary, 1924, to consider the <br />unsettled accounts between the City and County covering a period from 1908 to <br />date, and <br />WHEREAS, at said meeting the provisions contained in this contract were <br />agreed upon subject to the approval of the Otty and County, now, therefore, this <br />contract, <br />WI TN.�,,) SETH : <br />That for and in consideration of the premises and the mutual agreements <br />hereinafter contained, it; appearing that the unsettled claims of the City against <br />the County are practically off set by the claims which the County may have against <br />the City, it is agreed between the County and the City that the.1k mutual accounts <br />shall be considered to balance on .3eptember 16t, 1923, and new records kept from <br />that date. <br />It is further agreed that the City shall pay three fifths (3/5) of all <br />costs of operation and maintainance of the Courthous, Jail, and (;lerkle Office and <br />that the county shall pay two fifths (2/5) of these costs. In ctise of any exten- <br />sive alterations or permanent implcovements to the property, the costs of such <br />alterations or improvements snall be borne wqually by the City and County. The;: <br />City is to pay its share of the insurance on these buildings in the same proportion <br />as other operating expenses. The County is to pay its share of ,water taxes in <br />the same proportion as the other operating costs. Said water tax is to be at the <br />rate of one hundred dollars 0100.00) per annlim for the terms of this contract. <br />This agreement shall b., effective and tetroactive as of ieptember 1st, 1923, <br />and shall continue to operate for a period of rive years and thereafter until can- <br />celled as herein providdd. After the five year period either the 9oard of Super - <br />Visors of the Jounty or the "ouncil of the �Ji ty upon sixty days notice may terminate <br />thi:3) agreement. <br />In testimony whereof, J. Id. ]+'ray, Chaixman of the Board of Supervisors of <br />Albemarle County, has executed this contract on behalf of said County, the seal of <br />said County having been duly affixed hereto and attested by I-V. L. Maupin its Clerk, <br />and the City of Charlottesville has caused its name to be signed hereto by <br />E. A. Joachim, its mayor and the Corporate seal hereunto affixed and attested by <br />H. A.
