AN ORDINANACE PROVIDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION, USE AND MAINTENANCE OF MARQUISES OVERHANGING <br /> <br />CITY STREETS. <br /> <br />Any person, firm or corporation desiring to erect a marquise over— <br /> <br />hanging any sidewalk, street, avenue or alley shall, before any work is done on same, <br /> <br />make application in writing, to the City Manager and receive a permit for such con- <br /> <br />struction. <br /> <br />All applications must be signed by the property owners, and no permit <br /> <br />shall be issued by the City Manager as provided herein until an inspection fee of $1.00, has <br /> <br />been paid to the City Collector. <br /> <br />Marquises erected under the authority of this ordinance shall conform <br /> <br />to the following requirements: <br /> <br />All marquises must be constructed entirely of metal except the roof <br /> <br />surface, or vovering; and the ornaments. The roof may be composed of wired Mass, not <br /> <br />less than one quarter Inch (4) in thickness inclosing a layer of wire fabric reenforcinent <br /> <br />having a mesh not larger than seven eights inch (7/8) in size, and wire not small than <br /> <br />number 24 B & S gauge, when this wire glass is used it shall be further protected by a <br /> <br />wire sitreen approved by the City Manager. All ornaments must be composed entirely <br /> <br />of metal or glass, and when glass ornaments are used they shall be of sufficient <br /> <br />thickness to prevent easy breakage. <br /> <br />All marquises shall be placed not less than nine feet (9) feet above <br /> <br />the sidewalk, street, avenue or alley and. shall not project nearer than within two feet <br /> <br />(2) ft. of the curb line. Adequate provision must be made fans drainage so that no <br /> <br />water will be allowed to drip from marquise on to the sidewalk or street. No marquise <br /> <br />shall be anchored, supported or braced to the wooden beams or other framework of a <br /> <br />building, but must be securely attached to brick wall, or other incumbustable portion <br /> <br />of the building, supported by a sufficient number of chains, or other supportc attached <br /> <br />to the building as described above. Posts, piasters or anther supports, placed in the <br /> <br />Street or sidewalk will not be permitted. <br /> <br />In every case the saftey of design and construction must be approved <br /> <br />by the Building Inspector. <br /> <br />All marquises must be lighted, only electric lights will be permitted <br /> <br />all electric wiring must be in accordance with the latest regulations of the National <br /> <br />Board of Fire Underwriters, for electric wiring. There shall be at least one 25 watt <br /> <br />light for each 5 Sq. f t. surface covered by the marquise, measurements to be made <br /> <br />upon its horizontal projection over the Street. In no erase shall there be leve than <br /> <br />20 lights in any marquise. <br /> <br />All marquise shall be lighted from 30 minutes after sun set for <br /> <br />a period of at ldast three hours every day except Sunday. <br /> <br />This ordinance shall, upon its Massage become a part of the City <br /> <br />Building Code, and all construction under authority of this ordinance shall be subject <br /> <br />to all the requirements, restrictions, conditions and penalties as provided therein. <br /> <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council April 5, 1926. <br />Ayes: Joachim, Morris and Brown, Noes none. <br /> <br />Clerk Signature. <br />President Signature. <br />
