AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING TIE CONSTRUCTION , <br /> <br />OF FRAME APARTMENT HOUSES FOR THE <br /> <br />PURPOSE OF HOUSING MORE THAN FIVE FAMILIES. <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that it shall be unlaw- <br /> <br />ful to erect, alter or remodel any frame building for the purpose of housing more than <br /> <br />fine families or 20 persons. This ordinance shall upon passage become a part of the <br /> <br />Building Code and the conditions and penalties provided therein shall apply. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council July 2, 1928. <br />Ayes, Brown and Morris; Noes, None. <br /> <br /> <br />Clerk Signature <br />President Signature <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING TAXES ON PERSONS AND PROPERTY FOR THE PAYMENT OF INTEREST <br /> <br />ON THE CITY DEBT, FOR CREATING A SINKING FUND THEREFOR, FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE <br /> <br />CITY GOVERNMENT AND CITY SCHOOLS, AND FOR OTHER EXPENSES. <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, that for the year begin - <br /> <br />ping the first day of February, 1928, and ending the 31st day of January, 1929, and each <br /> <br />year thereafter while this ordinance is in force, the taxes on persons and property for lo- <br /> <br />cal purposes shall be as follows: <br /> <br />GENERAL LEVY. <br /> <br />1. Lands, Dots and Buildings. <br /> <br />On tracts of lend and lots and improvements thereon not exempt from taxation, <br /> <br />there shrill be a tax of $1.55 on every $100.00 of the assessed value thereof, to <br /> <br />pay the general operating expenses of the city government and to pay the interest <br /> <br />and sinking fund on the cit.v debt other than schools. And there shall be levied <br /> <br />an additional tax on every $100.00 of the assessed value thereof of $0.17 (seven- <br /> <br />teen cents) to pay the interest and sinking; fund on school bonds and $0.80 (eighty <br /> <br />cents) for the maintenance and operating of the schools. <br /> <br />2. Tangible Personal Property. <br /> <br />Upon all tangible personal property, as defined in Schedule B of the State <br /> <br />Tax Law, not exempt from taxation, there shall be a tax of $1.55 on every $100.00 <br /> <br />of the assessed value thereof, to pay the general operatinf; expenses of the city <br /> <br />government and to pay the interest and sinking fund on the city debt other than <br /> <br />schools. And there shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 of the as- <br /> <br />sessed value thereof of $0.17 (seventeen cents) to pay the interest and sinking <br /> <br />fund on school bonds and Q0.80 (eighty cents) for the maintenance and operating of <br /> <br />the schools. <br /> <br />3. Other Property. <br /> <br />Upon any property not included in the foregoing, <br /> <br />which is not exempt from local taxation, the tax shall be $1.55 for <br /> <br />every one hundred dollars of the assessed value ttlereof, to pay the general <br /> <br />operating expenses of the city goverment and to pay the interest and sinking <br /> <br />fund on the city debt other than schools. And there shall be levied an additional <br /> <br />tax on every $100.00 of the assessed value thereof of $0.17 (seventeen cents) to <br /> <br />pay the interest and sinking fund on school bonds and $0.80 (eighty cents) for the <br /> <br />Maintenance and operatinj of the schools. <br /> <br />Adorted by the Council August 6, 1928, <br />Ayes, Brown and Morris; Noes. None. <br /> <br />Clerk Signature <br />President Signature <br /> <br />PARKING OF VEHICLES ON THE STREET S OFTHE CITY <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the Citv of Charlottesville that an ordinance entitled <br /> <br />"Parking vehicles on the Streets of the City" adopted July 19th, 1926 be amended and reenacted <br /> <br />so as to read as follows: <br /> <br />1. Except as authorized in this ordinance no vehicle shall be parked except parallel <br /> <br />with and close to the right hand curb and in no instance shall such vehicles be <br /> <br />parked less than four feet apart, nor with the rear wheels further than six inches <br /> <br />from the curb. <br /> <br />2. No vehicle shall be parked on Main Street for Seventh Street East to Preston Ave., <br /> <br />between 7 A.M. and 6 P.M. for a period of more than thrity minutes. <br /> <br />No vehicle shall be parked between Market Street and Water Street on Second Street <br /> <br />West; First Street; Second Street East; Thrid Street East; Forth Street East and Fifth Street East <br /> <br />between 7 A.M. and 7 P.M for a period of more than two hours <br /> <br />excpet on Sunday. <br /> <br />3. No vehicle shall be parked on any of the streets of the City betweem twelve o'clock <br /> <br />midnight and six A.M. without a parking light on the front and rear of such vehicle. <br /> <br />4. Parking (with the vehicle heading eaither way) is permitted only on designated <br />
