AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND RE-ENACTING SEC. 490 �I} OF THE CITY CODE
<br />OF 1932 ENTITLED "ARDENT SPIRITS DEFINED .
<br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Sec. 490 (1) of the
<br />City Code of 1932 entitled, "ARDENT SPIRITS DEFINED", be amended and re-enacted so as to
<br />read as follows:
<br />SEC. 490 (1) (A) ARDENT SPIRITS DEFINED.
<br />The words ardent spirits, as used in this section shall be construed to
<br />embrace alcohol,brandy, whiskey, rum, gin, wine, porter, ale, beer, all malt liquor*,
<br />beverages, absinthe, and all compounds or mixtures of any of them, all com-
<br />pounds or mixtures of any of them with any vegetable or other substance, alco-
<br />holic bitters, bitters containing alcohol, also all liquids, mixtures, or
<br />preparations, whether patented or otherwise, which will produce intoxication,
<br />fruits preserved in ardent spirits, and all beverages containing more than one-
<br />half of one percentum of alcohol by volume, and more than three and two-tenths
<br />percentum of alcohol by weight, except as herein provided.
<br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. This
<br />ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passage.

<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ANNUAL. LICENSE TAX ORDINANCE ENACTED APRIL
<br />39 1933, AND SPREAD IN ORDINANCE BOOK NO. 2, PAGE 910 6Y ADDING THERE-
<br />TO THE FOLLOWING SECTION: "SEC. 23 (A) BEER".
<br />BE IT ORDAIWSD by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that the annual License Tax
<br />Ordinance, enacted April 3, 1933, and spread in Ordinance Book No. 2, Page 91, be sm ended by
<br />adding thereto the following section:
<br />SEC. 23 (A) SEER.
<br />On every person producing or handling for sale any Beverage, as defined by
<br />as Act of the Legislature approved August 29, 19330 the Licm se Tax for the year
<br />ending April 30, 1934, shall be as followss
<br />(a) Manufacturers, $1,000.00.
<br />(b) Bottlers, $50.00.
<br />(a) Wholesalers:
<br />(1) Wholesalers who distribute or sell Beverages to retail
<br />stores in which they have a financial interest, direct-
<br />ly or indirectly, or mho have such interest is the busi-
<br />ness for which the license is desired, $500.00.
<br />(2) All other Wholesalers, 125.00.
<br />(d) Retailers, $5.00.
<br />(e) A Special License Tax of $500*00 shall be paid for every distributing
<br />house or place in the city operated by any person and used in whole or
<br />In part for distributing Beverages among such personts retail stores
<br />in this state.
<br />Each such license as is hereinbefore provided for shall define where the place
<br />of business of the Licensee will be carried on. A separate license shall be required
<br />for each separate place of business. The peddling of Beverages, as defined hereint
<br />to consumers is hereby prohibited. No such license shall be transferable from one
<br />person to another, but may be amended to show a change in the place of business within
<br />the city. NO SUCH LICENSE SHALL BE PRORATED.
<br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. This ordi-
<br />xance shall be in full force and effect from the data of its passage.
