Mr. E. L. Jones addressed the Council and suggested that the proposed ordinance <br />on fireworks be amended so as to not include small fireworks, sparklers and Roman <br />Fireworks candles, and also suggested that a special license tax be leived on dealers who sell <br />fireworks. On motion this matter was carried over for further consideration. <br />County Water On motion by Mr. Tebell, seconded by Mr. Nash, a county water connection was <br />Connection <br />granted to R. W. Ward in Maury Hills. <br />A communication from the Confeaerate Pension board of Charlottesville recommend- <br />ing that a pension be paid to each of the following Widows of Confederate Veterans <br />was presented. <br />WIDOWS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS <br />Mrs.. Uary Ashby,. Mrs. Tnomas S. Jones <br />Mrs. eauline S. Blake Mrs. Margaret H. Kable <br />Mrs. John Overton Bowcock ,. Mrs. Arah Jones Taylor <br />Mrs. Sarah A. Cousins Mrs. W. C. Webb <br />Mrs. Annie S. Gianniny Mrs. W. H. Wolfe- <br />Pensions <br />olfe-Pensions - <br />Mrs. Lillie Smith Brown Craddock <br />Widows of On motion by Mr. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Watson, the Director of Finance was <br />Confederate <br />Veterans instructed to pay each of the above Widows of Confederate Veterans $50.00 provided <br />they were residing within the City on January 1, 1947. <br />On motion by Mr. Watson, seconded by Mr. Tebell, the following resolution was <br />unanimously adopted: <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that <br />$931.66 be and the same is hereby appropriated to the School Board of the <br />Approp. City of Charlottesville to enable the purchase of lighting poles and <br />School Bd. <br />Surplus other surplus property. <br />Property <br />An ordinance entitled ttAN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 15 OF <br />CHAPTER 33 OF TriE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY CODE OF 1945 ENTITLED ?ACCESSORY BUILDINGS?" <br />Ordinance- was offered by Mr. Tebell, seconded by Mr. Watson <br />Accessory , read and carried over to the <br />Buildings next meeting for consideration. <br />The resolution appropriating X1,800.00 for the operation of the old Midway <br />Approp. School Building, which was offered at the last regular meeting was adopted by the <br />Midway <br />School following recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Nash, Mr. Tebell, and <br />Bldg. <br />Mr. Watson. Noes: None. <br />On motion by Mr. Watson, seconded by Mr. Tebell, the following resolution was <br />offered and carried over to the next meeting for consideration: <br />Approp. BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that <br />Parking $3,000.00 or as much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same is hereby <br />Meters <br />appropriated for additional parking meters. <br />A motion by Mr. Watson, seconued by Mr. Gleason, that Section 13 of the exist- <br />ing Joint Health contract be amended so as to read as follows., was unanimously adopted: <br />Amendment - "13. That the money appropriated for the operation of the Joint Health <br />Joint Health <br />Contract Department shall be budgeted to one account. Said account shall be kept in <br />the Office and under the supervision of the Director of Finance of Albemarle <br />County, and an allowance of 415.00 per month shall be made for such services. <br />Said Director of Finance shall furnish the contracting parties to this agree- <br />ment such reports and financial statements as they may require." <br />On motion by Mr. Nash, seconded by Mr. Gleason, the City Manager was requested <br />to investigate the possiblity of widening High Street from Park Street to Vreston <br />Avenue. <br />
