The City Attorney advised the Council that this was a matter to be handled
House on
University by the Board of Zoning Appeals and not by the Council. They explainea that aprroximately
Lane High
00 School Xll,000.00 had been raisea by the Lionst Club but that approximately X15,000.00
LC)concrete
additional was necessary in order to construct a/stadium which would seat 3,000
Qpersons. On motion by Mr. Tebell, seconded by fir. Nash, this matter was referred
to the Finance Committee for investigation and report.
Tile following report was presented:
January 18, 1947
To the Members of the City Council
Charlottesville, Virginia
Gentlemen:
As requested at your last meeting, we have made
a rather exhaustive study of the possibility of widening High Street
between Park Street ana the foot of Beck's Hill; ana we f inu that
Widening it is impossible to widen this any appreciable amount without re -
High Street moving some of the trees. The street is now thirty (30) feet wide
between curbs and we could widen it to thirty-six (36) feet which
would necessitate removing ten of the large trees. The total cost
to do this, we estimate to be 423,302.00.
Inasmuch as this street is a portion of U. S. Route 250,
to be able to secure State or Federal Aid, we would have to have
a minimum of forty (40) feet between curbs. To be able to get this,
we would have to take out all the trees on one side and eleminate
the grass plot completely. We estimate this would cost 31,;c40.00.
Respectfully submitted,
• Seth Burnley (signed)
SB: GBH City Manager
Parking on A motion by Mr. Nash, seconded by Cdr.
